Scam Detection Not Showing on Android? Check This First

Person holding and using a Samsung smartphone

You saw the announcement. You opened Settings. The scam-protection switch everyone is talking about is nowhere to be found.

First, identify which protection you mean. Android has separate controls for suspicious calls, chat notifications and Google Messages. Their requirements differ. A missing switch does not, by itself, mean your phone is broken.

Start with the app where you expected the warning

  • During a phone call? Check the calling app’s Scam Detection eligibility.
  • In a WhatsApp or other chat notification? Check your manufacturer’s chat-message protection.
  • Inside Google Messages? Distinguish existing spam controls from the newly announced Enhanced protection mode.

Write down your phone model, country, Android version and app name before changing anything. That small note makes support advice much easier to judge. “Android scam detection missing” can describe several different problems.

If you mean warnings during calls

Google’s Phone app instructions describe a Pixel feature with model and country restrictions, including requirements for the SIM’s country and the device’s location. In India, the listed eligible range is Pixel 9 and later, with separate restrictions for the 9a and 10a models.

On an eligible phone, update the Phone app, then open Phone → More → Settings → Scam Detection. Call Scam Detection is off until you enable it. Google says processing happens on the device; an audible beep informs participants when it is active.

A Samsung feature shown in a social video is not proof that Google’s Pixel instructions apply to your Samsung. Follow the documentation for the actual calling app and model. Avoid clearing app data or changing regions just because a stranger says it unlocked a switch.

If you mean Google Messages Enhanced protection

Google announced Enhanced protection on October 14, 2026, with rollout over the following weeks. It is an opt-in mode with several components, including cloud-assisted scam analysis and additional link checks. Those components have different device requirements.

That means an announcement is not confirmation that your particular phone has the setting today. Check the current requirements in Google’s announcement and the notices inside your app. We have not independently confirmed rollout on every model, and there is no universal activation trick to offer here.

If you mean suspicious chat notifications

On supported Pixels, Google documents a separate route: Settings → Security & privacy → More security & privacy → Scam Detection → Message scams. Its chat-protection help page lists regions and languages and explains that the feature checks notifications from supported apps. This is separate from the Phone app’s call setting.

Keep this troubleshooting note

Copy this before contacting support:

Phone model: __
Country and SIM country: __
Android version: __
App and app version: __
Expected feature: call / chat notification / Messages
Official eligibility page checked: __
What I actually see: __

Share the setting names, not a screenshot containing private conversations. If you already have a suspicious message, our Circle to Search guide explains a separate way to inspect it.

No warning does not mean “safe”

Google cautions that detection can miss scams. Treat an alert as useful evidence and its absence as no verdict. If your switch is missing, start with the feature and eligibility checks above—not a factory reset.

Which model and setting are you trying to find? Leave those details in the comments without posting phone numbers, private messages or verification codes.
