Join a WhatsApp Call Without an Account: A Guest Checklist

Person joining a group video call on a laptop

“Can we call on WhatsApp?” is an easy question until someone replies, “I don’t use it.”

WhatsApp now supports invited guests without accounts. The confirmed joining route is a computer browser, using a call link created by an account holder. The host admits the guest. Here is the short version to send to someone before your next conversation.

What the host and guest need

In its October 14, 2026 announcement, WhatsApp says the host opens Calls, chooses the plus icon, creates a call link and shares it. A guest opens that link in a computer browser, enters a name and waits for approval.

WhatsApp describes the calls as free, end-to-end encrypted and without a time limit, with up to 32 people. Guests can share their computer screen, react and raise a hand. They cannot see participants’ phone numbers, send messages or add other people directly. Only account holders can create the link.

Send an invitation that answers the obvious questions

A bare link leaves your guest guessing. Include the time zone, purpose and joining requirements. Here is an invitation you can adapt:

Let’s speak at [time and time zone] about [topic]. Open this WhatsApp call link in a browser on your computer: [link]. Enter the name I know you by and request to join. I’ll admit you. You do not need to create a WhatsApp account. If it does not work, contact me through [our usual channel] and we’ll use our backup.

For a tutorial or client discussion, add what the guest should have ready. “Bring your draft and two questions” is more useful than “quick catch-up.”

A first-call rehearsal

This is an editorial checklist, not a report of a device test we performed:

  1. Send the invitation privately to someone you know.
  2. Ask them to use a computer for the documented guest route.
  3. Confirm the display name you expect before admitting them.
  4. Check that you can both hear each other before starting the actual discussion.
  5. If sharing a screen, close unrelated documents and notifications first.
  6. Agree on a backup contact method before an important meeting.

If the link does not work

Record where it fails: opening the link, requesting entry, getting admitted or using audio. That distinction helps the host investigate. A waiting room and a microphone problem need different answers.

Use current app and browser versions and consult WhatsApp’s help for the error shown. Do not install a “guest calling unlocker” from a forwarded message. For unfamiliar invitations, use our suspicious-message checking guide before opening links.

What about Google Calendar and Outlook?

WhatsApp announced calendar integrations for later in 2026. Treat that as a planned addition until its availability is confirmed; it is not a prerequisite for the link-based call described above.

The useful change is simple: one less account to create before a conversation. Try the guest flow with a familiar person before relying on it for an important call. Share the invitation template with the person who usually ends up organising everyone.
