What the result tells you
In a full 234-seat Assembly, more than half means 118 seats. TVK’s 108 seats are 10 below that number. This arithmetic establishes the difference between being the largest party and holding a majority alone; it does not establish who subsequently supported a government.
Seat share also differs from vote share. A party winning 108 seats has won about 46.2% of the seats (108 divided by 234). That calculation is not its percentage of votes. This summary does not publish an unverified statewide vote-share figure.
How to find your constituency’s winner
- Open the ECI constituency results list for Tamil Nadu. Confirm that the heading says May 2026.
- Find the constituency by name and check its constituency number. The list spans multiple numbered pages; your browser’s Find function searches only the page currently open.
- Read the candidate, party, margin and result-status columns together. A name in a column labelled “Leading Candidate” should be read alongside the status, rather than treated as proof that counting is still underway.
- For detailed records, follow the constituency selection on the ECI results site. ECI identifies Form 20 as the final constituency-level record.
Worked lookup: the ECI list records Alandur, constituency 28, as “Result Declared,” with M. Harish (TVK) ahead of T. M. Anbarasan (DMK) by 29,609 votes. The margin is the difference between those candidates’ votes; it is not the winner’s total vote count.
Before sharing a result screenshot
- Keep the state, election year and constituency name visible. A cropped chart can easily be mistaken for another election.
- Check whether a number describes seats, votes, a percentage or a winning margin.
- Link to the official result so the next reader can verify the figure, instead of forwarding an image alone.
- Use a separate, dated source for later developments such as government formation, resignations or by-elections.
Correction, 6 October 2026: the earlier version promised a full winners list and vote shares without supplying verified figures. It has been replaced with sourced seat totals and constituency lookup instructions. Unsupported turnout and political-cause claims have been removed.
