In a performance that will be remembered as one of the great batting displays in IPL history, Royal Challengers Bengaluru posted 250 for 3 against Chennai Super Kings at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday. It was RCB’s third-highest total in IPL history and the highest score any team has ever made against CSK in the tournament.

RCB’s innings started solidly with Virat Kohli (28 off 18) and Phil Salt (46 off 30) providing a platform. After Kohli’s departure, Devdutt Padikkal (50 off 29) kept the attack going with five fours and two sixes. But the match truly exploded in the death overs when Rajat Patidar (48* off 19) and Tim David (70* off 25) combined for a 99-run partnership off just 44 balls, hitting 14 sixes and fours between them. RCB scored 97 runs off the last five overs.

Chasing 251, CSK’s top order crumbled in the powerplay. Jacob Duffy dismissed Ruturaj Gaikwad and Sanju Samson in the slips in the first three overs, leaving CSK at 30/3 inside three overs. Sarfaraz Khan (50 off 25) mounted a fierce counterattack to keep CSK interested — but when Krunal Pandya stumped him immediately after his fifty, the chase effectively ended. CSK were bowled out for 207 in 19.4 overs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar took 3/41 and reached his 200th IPL wicket milestone during the innings.

If one innings defined what IPL 2026 is about, it was Tim David’s unbeaten 70 off just 25 deliveries. The Singapore-born Singapore Singaporean-Australian finisher walked in with RCB at a solid but not extraordinary 151/2 in the 14th over — and proceeded to hit the ball into orbit.

David was actually bowled for 28 off 15 balls by Anshul Kamboj, but the third umpire intervened and declared it a no-ball, reprieving him. He made CSK pay handsomely — scoring 42 more runs off just 10 more balls after that moment, including a monstrous 30-run 19th over against Jamie Overton (6, 4, 6, 6, 6). His final six off Overton was measured at 106 metres — it landed on the roof of Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Amid all the batting pyrotechnics, one of Sunday’s defining moments was Bhuvneshwar Kumar taking his 200th wicket in the IPL — dismissing Ayush Mhatre to reach the milestone. He became only the second bowler ever to take 200 wickets in IPL history, after Yuzvendra Chahal.

Bhuvneshwar finished with 3/41 in his four overs, also dismissing Noor Ahmad and another lower-order batter as CSK collapsed in the chase. At 36 years old, the veteran seamer continues to show why he remains indispensable to RCB’s attack.

Tonight’s clash at Eden Gardens, Kolkata is an absolute must-win for the Kolkata Knight Riders. With three straight defeats — the latest a 65-run thrashing by SRH — KKR (and their NRR of -1.964) are in genuine danger of being out of playoff contention before the season is even two weeks old.

Facing them are Punjab Kings, who sit joint-first in the table with 4 points and an unbeaten record. Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy has been exceptional — guiding PBKS through two tricky chases and showing tremendous composure. Priyansh Arya at the top, Connolly at #3, and Iyer at #4 form a terrifyingly balanced top order.

Eden Gardens under lights is one of the most electric atmospheres in cricket. Over 65,000 Kolkata fans will be hoping their team can find their first win of the season. KKR need at least a 20-run margin of victory to begin repairing their terrible NRR.
