Aadhaar Document Update: Free Deadline and Fee Checks

Aadhaar Document Update editorial illustration of a resident comparing identity and address documents beside a laptop.

Aadhaar Document Update is free through the myAadhaar portal until 14 June 2027, according to UIDAI’s current fee information. The same document-update service at an Aadhaar centre is listed at ₹75.

UIDAI’s Aadhaar Seva Kendra page distinguishes submitting proof-of-identity and proof-of-address documents from changing demographic or biometric information. A waiver for one service does not make every Aadhaar service free.

The UIDAI announcements page records the document-update fee relaxation in a notice uploaded in May 2026. This guide was checked on 29 October; the waiver is not a newly announced October deadline.

Compare your record with the supporting documents

Start by writing down what you are trying to accomplish in one sentence. If the enrolled details are correct and you are submitting supporting documents, that is a different task from asking for an enrolled address or another detail to be changed.

Place the existing record and proposed supporting documents side by side. Check names, dates, address details and legibility before opening the submission screen, and identify any mismatch that needs the appropriate correction process.

UIDAI publishes its accepted-document resources online. Check the document category and conditions for the particular service instead of assuming that every identity document also works as address proof.

For your own preparation, make a short file checklist with the document’s purpose, whether all relevant pages are present and whether the scan is readable. This is a way to reduce avoidable upload errors, not an additional official requirement.

Use the official portal and preserve the acknowledgement

Open myAadhaar’s official document-update route through UIDAI and follow the current instructions displayed there. Registered-mobile and authentication requirements should be checked for the service you are using, especially if you have changed phone numbers.

Review the uploaded image at a readable size before submitting it. A file can open successfully while still cutting off a line, obscuring an address or showing the wrong side of the document.

After submission, save the acknowledgement and reference information privately. Name the file so you can distinguish the date and service from an earlier request, without putting your full identity number in a filename that might be shared.

Keep submission and completion as separate entries in your notes. An acknowledgement helps identify the request; use the official status information to establish the later processing result.

What to do when the record and document disagree

Pause and establish which detail needs changing before resubmitting the same files repeatedly. A clearer copy can solve a readability problem, while a genuine difference in the recorded information requires a different question.

Write a concise issue note: the detail involved, the document you hold and the stage at which the problem appeared. Use the official support route or an Aadhaar centre to clarify the required service, without posting identity documents in a public forum.

If you are assisting a family member, review the final selection with them rather than assuming that an update suitable for your own record is suitable for theirs. Keep each person’s documents and acknowledgement in separate folders.

Useful questions before you submit

Is document update the same as changing my address?

No. Document update supports the details already enrolled, while changing an address is a request to alter a recorded detail. Select the service that matches the actual task and check its current evidence and fee rules.

Can I use an older fee chart?

Use the current UIDAI fee page when planning the service. Older citizen charters and saved screenshots may show earlier amounts or waiver periods, so compare both the service name and the date rather than choosing the lowest figure you find.

Finish with a private, recoverable record

Keep only the copies needed for your records, protect the folder and check where shared-device downloads were saved. Our backup planning guide explains how to retain recoverable copies without relying on a single device.

This guide does not claim that Aadhaar becomes invalid when a free-service period ends. Check UIDAI’s current instructions for your circumstances and use the official acknowledgement to follow your own request.
